One of the things that we love about the Internet how it has opened up the accountability of businesses, big and small, by enabling customers to publicly praise or vent about a product or service. The newest site to jump on the crowdsourcing trend is called www.GetSatisfaction.com. We added our store to the site so you can go and hail us or kill us. No More Reaganomics…But we still love the 80’s

The days of 80’s politics came to an end last night with the election of Barack Obama to the highest office in our land. This is a clear move away from the policies of the 1980’s and Reaganomics. But not everything from that era is being thrown out with the bathwater…what’s old is new again in the world of perfumes. The LA Times is reporting that trends in fragrances are shifting back towards the musty heavy “power” smells of the decade that brought us poofy hair and ALF. Perfume lovers are going back to the age old smells of Shalimar, Opium, and Poison. We have been selling perfumes since 1983, and can attest to the timeless nature of those scents. Gaining a little bit of respect for Ms. Paris Hilton

A Principle That Needs Principles

This story out of the Orlando, Florida area just came across my radar. A 13 year old girl was suspended from school for 3 days for wearing perfume.

Talk about overreaching your authority! This principal is way off course with this decision.

My favorite part of the story is the mom’s statement. Her argument is genius. “If she goes to school stinking they’re going to be calling children and family services on me saying I’m an unfit mother,” Jordon said. “She goes to school clean and they’re suspending her so she’s getting punished either way.”

In March of 2001, we opened our first location at a regional shopping mall. The mall is called Dolphin Mall and it is a wonderful place to shop. There are over 200 stores ranging from local merchants (like us) all the way to major brand names (like Ralph Lauren and Guess).

Massive Power Disruption in South Florida

Sitting in our offices our electricity pulsed about 10 minutes ago. We thought nothing of it, and then all of a sudden our stores (located 20 - 30 miles from our offices) called to tell us they lost power for a moment too.

A coworker here just got a phonecall from her sister’n'law that west Broward county is down in some areas. Florida Power & Light has no mention on their website. And neither does one of our local news station affiliates.

Wierd…..

Luckily are servers are off-site Orders will continue to process all day (we hope!!!)

Make your Perfume Last All Day Long

A popular question that customers ask in our perfume stores is “How do I make my perfume last from morning to night?” Well the first thing we tell them is “please for the love of god do not douse yourself in the perfume so that everyone in a 10 foot radius can smell you!”

Sidenote: Contrary to popular belief you should not be able to smell your own fragrance when you wear it. So if you do…use less!

So back to the question at hand. One of the most basic elements of a long lasting scent is the concept of layering. Layering is the practice of wearing a moisturizer, body lotion, or cream with the same scent as the perfume you will wear that day. This provides a foundation and a top layer of scent that will linger longer (linger longer…try saying that 5 times fast). Not to mention that well hydrated skin makes perfume last longer too.

If you do not want to invest the money in the brand name lotion of your perfume, then at the very least do not use a scented lotion. Find unscented lotions and moisturizers at any pharmacy or supermarket. This way you won’t have competing scents coming off of your skin.
